FOR CHILDREN AGED: 6 - 8 YEARS OLD

COURSE OVERVIEW

Welcome to Explore Art for 6-8 year olds! This course is designed to introduce young artists to the wonderful world of art, and to help them develop their creativity and artistic skills. Over the course of the program, your child will be exposed to a variety of art materials and techniques, and will have the opportunity to experiment and create their own unique artworks.

The course begins with an introduction to the basic elements of art, such as color, line, and shape. From there, we will explore different styles of art, including abstract, realism, and expressionism. Throughout the course, your child will have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of art materials, including paints, markers, pastels, and clay and will be encouraged to express themselves creatively through their artwork.

By the end of the course, your child will have a better understanding of the elements of art, and will have developed their own unique artistic style. They will have a portfolio of their own artwork, which they can proudly display and share with others. Most importantly, they will have discovered the joy and excitement of creating art, and will have a lifelong appreciation for the beauty and power of artistic expression.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  • Develop an understanding of the basic elements of art, including color, line, and shape.

  • Learn about different styles of art and the techniques used to create them.

  • Develop a sense of creative expression and learn to communicate through visual art.

  • Experiment with a variety of art materials, including paints, markers, pastels, and clay.

  • Build confidence in their artistic abilities and develop a positive attitude towards creating art.​

TERM 2

Introduction to Painting Tools and Techniques

  • Introduction to different painting tools such as brushes, palette knives, and sponges

  • Learning how to mix and blend paint

  • Practice painting different objects using different techniques
     

Watercolour Painting

  • Introduction to watercolour painting

  • Learning how to control watercolour paint and create different effects

  • Practice painting landscapes and still life objects using watercolour techniques

 

Acrylic Painting

  • Introduction to acrylic painting

  • Learning how to work with acrylic paint and create different textures

  • Practice painting portraits and still life objects using acrylic techniques

 

Oil Painting

  • Introduction to oil painting

  • Learning how to work with oil paint and create different effects

  • Practice painting landscapes and portraits using oil techniques

 

Mixed Media

  • Introduction to mixed media art

  • Learning how to combine different materials such as paint, paper, and found objects

  • Practice creating mixed media pieces using different techniques

Final Projects

  • Review of all the techniques learned in the course

  • Students work on a final project of their choice using any of the techniques learned throughout the year

Introduction to Drawing Tools and Techniques

  • Introduction to different drawing tools such as pencils, charcoal, and pastels

  • Learning the basics of line, shape, and form

  • Practice drawing different objects using different techniques

 

Perspective Drawing

  • Introduction to perspective drawing

  • Learning how to draw basic 1-point and 2-point perspective

  • Practice drawing simple objects using perspective techniques

 

Introduction to Colour Theory

  • Introduction to the colour wheel and colour theory

  • Learning about primary, secondary, and tertiary colours

  • Practice mixing and blending colours using paint or pastels

 

Still Life Drawing

  • Introduction to still life drawing

  • Learning how to set up a still life composition

  • Practice drawing still life objects using different techniques

 

Portrait Drawing

  • Introduction to portrait drawing

  • Learning how to draw facial features and proportions

  • Practice drawing self-portraits and portraits of classmates

 

Landscape Drawing

  • Introduction to landscape drawing

  • Learning how to draw trees, mountains, and other natural forms

  • Practice drawing landscapes using different techniques

Art History

  • Introduction to art history

  • Learning about different art movements such as Impressionism, Pop Art, and Abstract Expressionism

  • Practice creating artwork inspired by different art movements

 

Printmaking

  • Introduction to printmaking

  • Learning how to create prints using different techniques such as linocut and mono-printing

  • Practice creating prints inspired by nature and other themes

 

Sculpture

  • Introduction to sculpture

  • Learning how to work with different materials such as clay and paper Mache

  • Practice creating sculptures inspired by animals and other themes

 

Comic Art

  • Introduction to comic art

  • Learning how to create characters and tell stories through sequential art

  • Practice creating comic strips and panels using different techniques

Digital Art

  • Introduction to digital art

  • Learning how to use digital tools such as tablets and software to create artwork

  • Practice creating digital paintings and illustrations
